Composing Background or Education: -I have been studying music composition at the Conservatory of Music at SUNY Purchase since 2009. -Prior to that, as a teenager I took extra-curricular composition courses offered by the Hart School and Weslyan University. With the Marsyas Ensemble I have had experience coordinating, writing for, and performing in new music concerts throughout New York and Connecticut.

Musical Equipment and Instruments: Most of my scores are hand-written but I also own Sibelius 5 and have experience with Finale. My primary instrument is piano.

Philosophy as a Composer: -I try to be pragmatic, and have my ideas grow out of the resources available to me for each project. Along similar lines my music always tries to serve the context in which is presented, be it a concert hall, a film, etc. -I strive to develop a unique voice that shows both individuality and a deep respect for history and tradition. -I dislike dogma and am open to a range of ideas and experiences.

Musical Equipment and Instruments: I write for choirs, orchestras, chamber ensembles and soloists.

Philosophy as a Composer: My current area of exploration is in methods of exploring theological issues through music – composers questioning their own faith, challenging others, or asking questions to which they don’t yet have an answer. Most of my sacred music explores issues which are very difficult to address through words. I also write secular music, film scores, and chamber pieces.

Composing Background or Education: Marsel started his music composition studies at the age of 17 for Hans Parment at Växjö music school and 2 years after he continued his composition studies for the same teacher at Växjö University. The year after he studied music arranging and musicology A and B for Boel Lindberg and Hans Parment among others. Marsel has also studied EAM and taken a course in Max/MSP for Anders Blomqvist. Marsel has since his music studies written for some of the best and wellknown musicians and chamber music ensembles in Sweden.

Among them are Jörgen Pettersson (saxophone), Stockholm Saxophone Quartet, Daniel Berg (marimba) and Ivo Nilsson (trombone). He gets inspired from all classical music and especially music from the 19th century to the middle of 20th century. You can hear some influences from composers as A. Bruckner, G. Mahler and I. Stravinsky in Marsel´s music, but in a more eclectic and contemporary style. Marsel also blends influences from his origins from time to time and lets east meet west in his compositions. Marsel has also composed music for movies and would like to get involved with more film scoring and game scoring in the future if right project comes up.

Philosophy as a Composer: Every component in music is important to make a great composition. It´s about balance and to make all the part work together in a “perfect” way. Keep one foot in the music traditions while exploring and experimenting new sounds, combinations and music.

Composing Background or Education: Composing since the age of 15 and a debut performance of my first large ensemble piece at the age 17. Received the “Semper Fidelis” Award for Musical Excellence for my first piece. “Solo for Trombone, Op. 6″ is composed for solo trombone and was published in 2010 by Wehr’s Music House.

Philosophy as a Composer: I believe that although compositions must have academic appeal they must also be accessible to the public as, without this, they can be lost and unappreciated. My style is influenced by a range of composers including Shostakovich, Arvo Part and Rimsky-Korsakov whose works are both musicologically magnificent and increasingly accessible.

Philosophy as a Composer: My goal as a composer is to make my music accessible and welcoming to everyone. By drawing inspiration from not only the great composers that have come before, but also the new styles and familiar aspects into the music as well. Recently I have been focusing on music designed specifically for young orchestras and young players. Working with themes and melodies that they will find appealing while emphasizing educational goals.
