Composing Background or Education: Andrew Smith has an exciting new approach to music composing for media. Graduating from the Leeds Collage of Music with a BA(hons) degree, Andrew has studied composition for new media, film and Tv along with music production study. His music is in unique classical style, yet pics up on influences from folk, jazz and minimal music. He writes for many media subjects and projects from performance pieces, computer games to short films and large scale productions.

Musical Equipment and Instruments: Home studio. Andrew is an accomplished pianist and woodwind player. Uses a combination of sample instruments and recorded instruments.

Philosophy as a Composer: His music in mainly influenced from classical, folk and jazz. In his music Andrew creates a sense of emotion through the harmony, arrangement and melody. He has many influences from the interesting harmony of jazz music to the more earthy scales and moods of folk music. In parts Andrew’s music is minimalist with a lot of concentration of key relations and effective harmony combinations. However Andrew can write for a large array of styles.

Additional Information: Andrew is inspired by the Michael Nyman, Yan Tiersen, Philip Glass and other minimal composers. Also influenced by film composers such as Thomas Newman, James Newton Howard and Drio Marianelli.
